2010, from Autobiography, in my iPad application Horvatland
Looking at my first rolls of film, I see boys I hung out with, usually posing for the camera, teachers taken surreptitiously in the classroom, girls playing in the snow and animals spotted on my walks: the kind of pictures a teenage amateur might have considered worth taking, either because they seemed hard to get or because they reminded him of others he had seen. If you are determined to look for signs of a vocation, you may occasionally notice a sidelight emphasizing the flesh tones and suggesting sensitivity to texture. But I don’t believe they were the result of a deliberate intention, and even less that I had any dream of making photography my career.
